The Things I Know (Summary)

Thomasina “Hitch” Waycott has been treated poorly her entire life because of the physical impairments she was born with. She’s loved by her parents and her brother, but they believe that her physical traits also mean that she’s just not too smart. Everyone else in her life treats her as a freak.

Her nickname is Hitch because of the hitch in her lip. She has to walk on her toes because of her painfully misformed leg. None of this stops her from working hard on her family’s farm & B&B. She loves caring for her chickens, collecting their eggs, and making breakfast for guests. Her conversations with guests allow her to dream about traveling around the world. She wishes for friendship, dreams of love, yearns for adventure, and secretly desires to be the type of woman she knows she can never be.

'I know certain words have sat in my stomach... weigh so much that when I am in a crowd or meet someone new they pull my shoulders down & make my head hang forward so I can only look at the floor.' -The Things I Know Click To Tweet

Grayson Potts, a young man who may have Aspergers, comes to stay at the B&B and shows an immediate interest in Thomasina. He speaks to her as if she matters, something that has never happened to her before. As they get to know each other, the two begin to fall in love. Grayson’s words begin to transform Thomasina and, for the first time in her life, she begins to feel that she can be whoever she wants and live the life she’s always dreamed of.

'There was something about this man - and curiously, she suspected that the magical thing was how he made her feel about herself.' -The Things I Know by Amanda Prowse Click To Tweet

The Things I Know (Book Review)

I absolutely fell in love with this story. It warmed my heart to see Grayson standing up for Thomasina and to watch her bloom under the realization that she’s important enough to be defended.

I’m a sucker for a sweet first love romance and I’m a huge fan of any book that has great character development. This book had both and I’m a new fan of author Amanda Prowse because of it. Her writing brought life to every character in the book and I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The Things I Know (Audiobook Review)

Amanda Prowse narrated her own book and did a wonderful job. I always enjoy listening to books narrated by the author because they know the characters best. This author did not disappoint!

Sidenote: I absolutely love an English accent!!!
